Structure-Bilobed,pyramidal in children,maximum size at about 15 years of age and gradually reduced.
-It secrete a peptide hormone thymosin.
-Thymosin provided cell mediated immunity by the differentiation of T-lymphocytes.
-It also stimulate the production of antibodies so it also privide humoral immunity.
-So thymus gland have a greate role in the development of immune system.
-Old persons have weak immune response due to decreased secretion of thymosin and degeneratd thymus.
