World's longest sea bridge, the Jiaozhou Bay Bridge opens.

The world's longest cross-sea bridge has been opened in China.

The Jiaozhou Bay bridge is 42-km long, and links the country's eastern port city of Qingdao to an offshore island, Huangdao. China Central Television reported the 35-metre wide bridge is the longest of its kind and cost more than 10bil yuan (RM4.66bil).

The TV station said the bridge, as well as an undersea tunnel, opened to traffic on Thursday. Supported by more than 5,000 pillars, the bridge took four years to build. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the previous record holder for a bridge over water was the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in Louisiana, US. The Chinese bridge is four km longer.
