'Holocaust' : Poem for Today

Holocaust
Purple-beaded sweat
that comes in erratic convulsion
from the brow of the dying, green-eyed man,
is falling, falling, falling,
faster now he’s dying, to my feet.
Inside my inner soul
I can feel that self-made expression
crawling outward to
my extrovert caricature;
defiantly seeping to the surface of my world —
and that in the silent grey of cosmic dust —
and my flesh falls from me in one clean slash.
and there is no stench of death —
and there is no tomorrow —
Only the soft sounds of the sighing winds,
as they look back in sorrowing anger,
towards yesterday.

Poem for Today : 'I Believe in Him'

I Believe in Him
 I believe in Jesus,
For He first believed in me:
Yes, I believe in him,
Enough for Him to set me free.

He said to all mankind, “Believe,
That when I died upon the cross,
The whole world stood to gain
Their freedom from My loss.”

So I believe in Jesus,
That He died to set me free:
Yes, I believe in Him,
Because He first believed in me.

Poem for Today : 'Praises to Your Honour'

Praises to Your Honour
 I come into Your presence,
Broken and repentant.
I bow in full obeisance,
To offer all I have.

I marvel at the glory
Of Your heavenly brightness.
I praise You as my father,
Kneeling down in wonder.

I worship at your temple,
Lifted by Your love.
Laud You in Your glory,
With praises to Your honour.

Your light is full within me,
In everlasting day.
The fullness of Your being,
Commanding as my Master.

Father you have freed me,
That I may be Your servant.
Lead and I will follow,
Wherever You may send.

The hope I see before me,
Rejoice in life eternal.
Seeking, first and always,
Your kingdom without end.

Poem for Today : 'Old Flame'

Old Flame
 My memory plays the tricks
of age, making the lines
and shadows disappear
from your face.
I catch your eye and,
turning half away,
you beckon with a look
for me to follow.
Your hand slips
comfortably into mine
and we move off into the night,
there to live our
shared fantasies:
and then my head jerks,
lolling, half asleep in
my chair,
dreaming
half-remembered dreams,
I wake,
seeing you there
across the room,
and then
I light the flame once more
a thousand times.

Poem for Today : 'Harvest Time'

Harvest Time
The land is ripe for harvest,
Look upward for your Lord,
He’ll soon appear in glory,
As He promised in His Word.
He’s returning for the faithful.
For those who know Him true:
Make quite certain you are ready
When He calls out loud for you.
The land is ripe, the land is ripe,
The fields are white as new:
Hasten now to reap the crops,
For the labourers are but few.

We’re told it’s just a twinkling
Of an eye, it is so brief.
He’ll return in clouds of glory
For those with firm belief.
Yes, the land is ripe for harvest,
For the people to go home,
Yes, the land is ripe for harvest,
As He calls us for His own.
The land is ripe, the land is ripe,
The fields are white as new:
Hasten now to reap the crops,
For the labourers are but few.

Poem for Today : 'Alpha and Omega'

Alpha and Omega
 Alpha and Omega,
The beginning and the end.
Father, Son and Spirit,
Saviour, Guide and Friend.
Keep me ever near You,
Walking in Your way,
My Shepherd and Redeemer,
For like a sheep, I stray.
When I hear Your voice
Calling in the night,
I’ll answer You and follow,
Searching out the Light.
When at last I reach the ending
Of earth’s fleeting day,
I’ll call to You, Lord Jesus,
And in Your arms I’ll stay.

Poem for Today : 'In the Silence of Prayer'

In

The Silence

Of Prayer

 Lord Jesus, whisper softly,
in the silence of my soul.
Master, Friend and Saviour,
I pray, please make me whole.
Fill me with Your perfect peace,
That peace which overflows;
I come to Thee, my Saviour,
O keeper of my soul.

Poem for Today : 'Be Still'

Be Still
Psalm 48:10

In the bustle of the day,
When stress and tiredness is your load:
Stop and rest, and hear Me say,
Be still, and know that I am God.

Poem based on Malachi 3:6 : 'I Change Not'

I Change Not
Malachi 3:6
In a world that changes fast,
Where little stays the same,
Throughout the future, present, past,
My promises remain.
One thing is always certain,
When all has changed or gone,
I promise I will never change,
You’re never left alone.

Love Flowed Freely
When love flowed freely from the Cross,
Man’s richest gain was Heaven’s loss.
When love flowed freely on that day
It washed the darkest sin away.
The Saviour paid the price for sin,
Repentant hearts can enter in.
Love flowing freely from His side,
The bridegroom waits His spotless bride.
When freed from sin, from toil, from pain,
Our joyful praise is Heaven’s gain.
In service now, our arms we raise,
To Him in everlasting praise.
